The Colombian received a knock to his foot in the 28th minute of the game at the Santiago Bernabeu, having scored Madrid’s opening goal, and was subsequently taken to hospital, where x-rays confirmed he had broken the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.
The fracture requires surgery, which is expected to be performed on Thursday, while a medical report on the injury was immediately issued by the club.
“After tests carried out on James Rodríguez by the Real Madrid medical services at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.
“The player will undergo surgery in the coming hours,” it read.
